Different layouts and opening target in new window

Just try it:

replace
google_ad_format = “120x240_as";
with
google_ad_format = “120x240_new";

Targets will open in new window. Different new layouts for different formats.

Just read the Adsense TOS and you'll find out that you are not allowed to alter the code.

This is not a bug in Adsense. This is a feature built into the code for Adsense Premium publishers like PCMagazine and places like that.
Regular Adsense publisher (most of everyone on this board) cannot modify their Adsense code because this violates the TOS and you WILL be caught and you WILL be banned from the program.

As Google surely doesn't want these features to be accessed by all Adsense-partners, I guess it could be called a bug.

making the add open in a new window is against tos.. as is any modification of the code. Making an ad open in a new window is pretty unethical anyway. An advertiser is paying for the user.. not a share of the user.

This is not an AdSense bug. That said, it is not an option available to regular AdSense publishers at this time. You can be suspended from AdSense for making this change, as the terms clearly state you cannot modify the AdSense script whatsoever. The only exception is if you have specific permission from AdSense for a specific reason.

Bug or not bug, consider it the way you want to.
That using these modifications violates TOS is no question.
So it's an interesting outlook on what adsense might look like in the future, but it surely shouldn't be used on a serious account that makes money.

If a script is behaving according to the intentions of its developer then changing the script to behave in another way is not a bug, its an option. I can think of half a dozen script changes to that code, some are currently being beta tested by Google now.

Bottom line, if Google hasn't authorized it, you should not use it.

Exactly. Don't mess with the terms of service unless you could care less about staying in the program.

I've seen other beta Adsense displays around the web, some that seem to let you specify a keyword, others that let you build a menu of related keywords to see more ads. But I would never try to copy their code and use it... it is way too easy for Google to track. AND not worth it. I'll just wait for them to release the new features when they are ready...
