A wired article that may be of interest "Google Goes After Bad Ads and Bad Sites That Profit From Them"
[wired.com...]

The world’s biggest digital advertising company says it took down more than 1.7 billion ads that violated its policies in 2016—more than double the number of bad ads it eliminated one year ago. The company disabled more than 780 million bad ads in 2015, 524 million in 2014, 350 million in 2013, and 220 million in 2012.

I can only speak from my experience, but this seems like a drop in the bucket, as I didn't see any difference depsite spending hours blocking and reporting these "bad ads". Hopefully the new ad-balancer feature (not mentioned in the article) will be more effective at blocking this crap.

I didn't notice difference either. Now, it depends of what's the definition of "bad ads" from Google point of view.

How about all those flashing ads with "Download here" which I come across every time my kids try to get a new Minecraft mod...
