We all know that writing great blog titles can help drive traffic, and it may be overlooked by some. What about numbered titles?

Another post on the AdSense blog has a couple of tips that may help some improve the performance of their posts.

What's your experience of using numbered titles? I was thinking of making this a numbered post.

If you have a list formatted post, then you need to be using numbered titles every single time. Titles that begin with numbers are proving to drive traffic. This is largely due to the increased consumption of users reading list posts more than any other type of blog post. Google AdSense: Better Blog Titles Can Get More Traffic [adsense.googleblog.com]

Pinterest is master of the numbered titles universe: always 1000+ "ideas" about everything. Can't beat that.

    (site:www.pinterest.com/explore/).

This finding seems to be at odds (sorry) with other research:
How odd, we're wired to prefer even numbers [wired.co.uk]
Why odd numbers are dodgy, evens are good, and 7 is everyone's favourite [theguardian.com]

(Was it really a finding though? The guest post author doesn't list sources. Many things beside the exact number will affect CTR.)

Yeah, but then you have to edit your content. If you use such a catchy title then shouldn't the information be formatted to match a number promising, enticing title? Me thinks so.

In today's 140 character environment many people just want short, snappy text, and many don't want to spend time reading lots of text.
If something says 3 facts about "subject", and they are interested in the "subject," they are likely to click through and read.
