CPM Earnings Suddenly Rising Dramatically

Hi everyone. I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing what I'm seeing...

I've been using Adsense for several years and my first year was by far the best. Each preceding year the income, while still acceptable, has been on a slow but steady decline just like so many others have reported here. Suddenly over the past few months, out of the blue, things seem to be turning around and the income is starting to return to levels not seen since my first year. The reason for this seems to be that CPC bids have plunged and CPM as well as Active View CPM earnings have skyrocketed. I'm wondering if G is implementing some changes that is causing this turnaround towards a CPM program and I'm curious if others are are starting to see the same thing? It's been quite heartening watching the income levels rise for the first time in years, without any changes on my part to my sites. I know however that this may be a temporary blip in the numbers and things may return to the way they were, but for now I'm watching with amazement.

My CPC numbers have been up the last month or so. My CPM numbers are up a little but the the earnings under the "active views" tab are a fraction of total earnings, about 4 percent or total earnings.

Some sites profit nicely from CPM ads, while CPC is the name of the game for others. Different topics, sites, and audiences are going to perform in different ways.

For example:

- A general news site that reaches a high-income audience might be a great venue for CPM ads that are intended to build awareness for a luxury cruise line.The site's readers may not be inclined to click on ads, but when they're planning a vacation, they'll remember a message like "Celebrate your anniversary in style with Croesus Cruises" if they've seen it often enough.

- A site that's geared more to cruise reviews and community (and which therefore reaches people who are actively researching how to spend their money on cruises) is likely to be a better venue for direct-response CPC ads such as "Save $1,000 on a Croesus Cruise in the Sea of Widgets."

There was a time when AdSense was purely a pay-per-click platform, but today, it's a full-service advertising network that can mix and match ad types depending on any number of factors.
