Content layout for optimized adsense earnings

Hi my current content and adsense ad layout is as follows

160x600ad--Content Here-- 160x600ad

I tried to change the layout as follows

Content-- 300x250 ads

However making this change messed my Adsense earnings

Could anyone advise what the best practices are? Thx!

before you give up on it you should give the new ads and layout a bit of time.
google won't have any data for the new ads and positions, so you'll just get a load of low paying ads. your earnings will probably pick up after a week or two.

but you won't know for sure unless you give it a bit of time.

And time means more than a few weeks. It might take at least a month and a half before any real data accumulates.

Is there a lot of return visitors to the site, or are most of them first time? Reason I ask is long time users might scratch their head over "significant" changes.
