Is there some trick to get nice ad units.

So that there are many nice ads in one ad unit, I usually get only one ugly ad in one ad unit and normally not targetted ads to my page content in anyway

Thank you

There are a lot of complaints about ad quality and targeting these days. You can block some categories that are known to have particularly ugly ads, but that doesn't usually eliminate them all. Generally, you have to take what Adsense gives you. And remember that the ads you see often are not the same ones that your visitors see.

Unfortunately most of their competitors' ads are even uglier.

No trick, just due diligence to keep after it. Block all that do not apply (or are desired) and do that daily. Forever.

Not so bad. After a bit it will take 20-30 minutes a day to clean up.

There will never be a "set it and forget it" level. Something to be done daily.

Then again, after you have nuked all the high spots of I don't want it, there aren't that many categories left.

No happy endings, sorry to say. It is what it is.
