adsense in static footer - allowed or not?

considering "floating" or not?

I've seen conflicting arguments over if this is allowed or not, would rather not find out the hard way.

Specifically is adsense allowed in a static footer on a page where it is always visible at the bottom as the person scrolls through the page?

The only guideline from Google is this:

Some examples of unacceptable modifications include:

Placing Google ads in a "floating box" in which ads scroll, hover, or expand over the webpage.

So is a static footer considered "floating" ?

I wouldn't do it unless specifically told by Google it was okay. But that's just me.

I've found several sites like 9gag that appear to use adsense in static boxes, after you scroll halfway down the page they stay visible on the sidebar.

Certainly this is proof static placement is allowed?

Of course it is not proof. Perhaps they are just not caught. Or they have special permission from Google.

If someone driving through a red light, it does not mean it is allowed.

Whether they contained AdSense I don't know, because I don't care. However...

To me they violate one of Google's "alleged" principles.

Bad for the user experience.

Unless the site information is critical to me, I'm out of there in a flash.
