More than 3 Adsense codes on web page but use display:none to show only 3

Adsense allows display:none for ad codes on responsive websites. Does this mean:

1 - If I have 3 Adsense codes I can elect to not display some ad spots at smaller screen resolutions

Or

2 - Can I have say 4 Adsense codes on a page and switch 2 ad spots using display:none depending on screen size (so that only 3 ads are ever visible at any one time.)

3 - Both?

Are you sure they allow display:none?

Thank you No5needinput for the sticky with link to the relative Google support page.
It appears you can use display:none in a media query - wasn't aware of that.
