I am new to adwords, so pardon this basic question.

Is it possible to find out any more specifics of the ads that generated clicks on our sites?

For instance, is it possible to determine which advertisers or what they were selling the click?

In short - no!

The best you can do is use channels to determine what locations on your site get clicked.

So if one wants to know what types of ads perform well, then one would have affiliate ads of various types (products, services, info) and track their performance, right?

Pretty much. Google has to hide that information because AdSense is gamed enough as it is. We don't really *need* more Mesothelioma websites.
