Yesterday, one of my sites had about 3 times the normal number of ad request according to the AS performance reports on url channels. However when I look at the report for Custom channels, the figures are normal.
Is this a bug on Adsense side or indicative of a problem on my part?

Most times a wait and see if it repeats, and consistently, is what you want to do. One day... no worries... a week, on the other hand, night need investigation.

Do you use link units?

No, I don't use link units. The same thing is happening today so have sent an email to adsense support - thought I would try it for the first time.
I had been making changes to the site the day before as I get it ready to resonsive, so there are responsive ads in there. I did have a few hours where I accidentally had 4 ads on a small number of pages, but that was corrected for this effect showed up.
I ant see anything wrong with the site or the ads.

Well if you're using any custom channels, you can add a second dimension and see which channels are generating the requests.

The custom channel report appears normal. It is only the url channel report which is showing the unusual high number of ad requests.
I assume it is not possible to have a rogue ad that does not belong to a custom channel.
The Ad Unit report shows a normal total figure for ad requests also.
As I said earlier, click and earnings appear normal.

Then I probably wouldn't worry about it myself.
