Poorly Targeted Ads?

I have a site that the ads are totally off. For example the site sells auto gas, but the ads show ways to get rid of human gas. (not my site, but an example) :)

I changed the wording of my site to try and make the meaning more specific. What is the "lag time" between me making a change and google updating the shown ads?

Are there ways to configure your site to make it more appealing to adsense?

My apologies if this horse has been beat, I did do a search the forum to try and find my answers, but to no avail.

Thanks Rocky.

Just to update and maybe help others. Going through my page, I noticed the closest link to my ads had alt text that I believe was causing the wrong targeted ads ("swimming red widget" text produced "swimming ads").

I replaced more relevant text, so hopefully that cures my ills.
