I see when I click on the little binoculars on the results in Ask Jeeves a cache of my site comes up and there are strange adwords ads. They don't seem at all related to the site but they aren't PSAs either. What are they? Is this something big companies can do to make some $$$$?

Never mind, now it's showing my back up ads that replace the PSAs on my sites.

Seems to go back and forth between the two now.

"ads door gooooogle" is the Dutch version of "ads by gooooogle".

When all the ads are in Dutch, I get this "ads door gooooogle" header, when some ads are in Dutch and others in English (or another language), I get the "ads by gooooogle" header.

I'll be happy when they stop putting up "goooooogle" or even worse, "goooooooooooogle", instead of just plain google.

I was thinking about this. I wonder if by using "goooooogle" that the average visitor would think along the lines of "hey. these ads are by a Google knock-ff and not the real thing, therefore I'm not clicking on them because I'm liable to get a million pop-ups or a virus" as opposed to thinking along the lines of "Google is a reputable name and these ads are liable to be of the same high quality, therefore I know I can click on these ads without getting a virus or something".

Could Google possibly be trying to make it so that less people click on ads on publishers website, thereby having to pay publishers less?

Given that the majority of people use Google, they might see the ads eventually anyway, and if they click on them in the SERPS, then they get 100% of the profit and they don't have to split it with publishers ... hummmmm

Chico_Loco,

Seems like a deliberate echo of the "Goooooogle" you get at the bottom of a results page in Google, each "o" corresponding to a page in the results. So more likely to be familiar than not.

Hummm - I use Google a LOT, and first time it, that didn't occur to me.

With that said, I get CTR's which are better than industry standard, so perhaps it's not an issue.

Truly strange I got Dutch results.

On another note: I wish they would drop the multiple ooooos too. It looks sort of phoney.

What I don't understand is why they continue it if they don't own those domain names. When you type in g(plus twelve o's)gle.com it takes you to a site offering links to sites about young boys and such. Regardless of any legal responsibilties from either google or the aforementioned domain I think this would be an uncomfortable position for G and they would either do something about it or stop using the 'twelve o' version (which they may have done for all I know).

I certainly would like to see them become a little more professional and drop the Gooooooogle moniker, but I don’t see any connection between “Ads by Goooooogle” and a domain name. It doesn’t read Ads by Goooooogle.com.
