Over the last few weeks, the AdSense Team and Google's management have been evaluating the AdSense program. Due to shareholder pressure, we are being forced to decrease the publisher's share to an average of 3.1%, requiring us to significantly reduce our payouts.
We have determined that we simply cannot attract quality websites at the payouts we would be able to offer going forward. We believe that allowing AdSense to continue to run on the sorts of sites willing to take such payouts would lead to a bad user experience.
This is a difficult decision for all of us at Google. However, after much deliberation this seems to be the best course of action despite the impact it will have on all the employees, clients, and partners who helped build this business. Publishers will be paid for their clicks through midnight, May 31, 2013 (Pacific Standard Time). We ask that you please remove all AdSense code by this date, as relevant ads will no longer be served and any clicks will no longer be paid.
Note that the $100 threshold must still be met. Any publishers not meeting the $100 threshold will have their balances placed into a pool, which will be used for offsetting the cost of distributing Google Glass to communities in Africa.
For any additional questions, please contact Google through the usual channels and we will respond with the same efficiency you have come to expect from Google.
Thank you for being part of the AdSense community!

Is this for real? So rather than trade my Adsense bucks for Adwords traffic I'll need to dig into my own sales proceeds? Wow, a LOT of people will be going out of business. This has GOT to be another April Fools Joke. I see this listed nowhere else on the web but here. Jo1lebne is right...that's ridiculously funny..Google Glass to Africa...geeze am I gullible!

I quit using adsense long ago and went to raising bee hives in my spare bedroom. Bees are quite nice if ya get them smoked up before ya bother them :)

Wouldn't surprise me if they do, sad as that is. Google has plans to shut down Reader as well as other programs they feel no longer pull their weight, so I don't put it beyond the realm of possibility. Of course, that would leave a big gaping hole for some other Ad company to make $ which is probably something Google doesn't want even more. Happy 4/1 all.

Can you imagine all the MFA's that would go out of business? it would actually be GREAT if they closed Adsense! That would remove the scrapers plus ask, about, ehow, houzz, ezinearticles, the whole lot!

plus Google choosing "user experience" over any amount of money. ROTFLMAO!
(gotta excuse me, I had only 3.5 hours of sleep last night, so pulling the wool over my eyes is easier than usual today.)

OK, this in the Adsense forum. I wonder what the reaction would be in the Adwords forum. Where would all those advertisers go?

Spot on, JCKline. "Thanks for noticing that. We'll get back to you." I must say, Webmasterworld wins the April Fool's Day competition. Would that be a booby prize? ;)

Sorry, I disagree. If they are dumb enough to fall for it, then they are too dumb to have a website.

Google removes programs/projects all the time. I don't think it would be dumb of someone new to fall for the idea that Adsense is over.
And a lot of dumb people have a website.
