I am experiencing a CTR that is 7 times higher than normal. My CPM is about 2/3 of what it normally is as well.

Is anyone else seeing this sort of thing, I am hoping it is just some messed up stats.

Thanks.

I havent noticed mega CTR today, but my CPM shot up from my normal, single figure $ CPM, to 5x normal, all of a sudden. That was this afternoon, and its now tailing back to down again this evening.

I can only assume someone clicked one BBBig paying ad somewhere on one of my sites, no idea where as the ads I have seen on my sites are low cent payers from what I can tell. I've not tried the Preview tool so maybe in other countries higher paying ads are on my site. Maybe the channels report will shed light on it on Friday.

Perhaps I worry too much, but I'd rather not see *really* weird blips like that! I flagged it with ads support in case something weird happened their end. Bit scary.

I was hoping someone else had experienced the same thing.

I have seen my CPM shoot up before and then later in the day it comes down as more page impressions are reported. But I have never before seen a CTR as ridiculous as this, I mean 7 times the normal. I don't know how that could correct itself, the only way is for the number of clicks to be lower later in the day. Strangely enough CPM is down which makes me think this is a reporting issue.

I wrote AdSense to let them know what I was seeing and asked if it was a reporting error on their end.

<sigh> C'mon guys, there are a million threads where the issue of different columns not being updating sinultaneously has been posted. And the issue of some numbers in some columns being held for several days before being dumped in your account on one day and skewing your day's figures.

If you don't click every few minutes and, instead, check your stats once or twice a week you'll have a lot less stress.

If you don't click every few minutes

Every few minutes, nay...I thought we all checked twice a minute for any update ;)

Macro, why are you bringing up checking stats every few minutes, that is not being discussed and you should not jump to conclusions.

Maybe you don't do this for a living, please don't talk down to those that do.

check your stats once or twice a week you'll have a lot less stress

That is like telling the owner of a company, "Hey you shouldn't be interested in yesterdays sales numbers, we'll give you them to you every few days, don't worry about anything."

Wouldn't want to be on the ship you're steering.

>>That was this afternoon, and its now tailing back to down again this evening

Who said it was targeted at you? Why so sensitive? If you are doing it for a living then you'll understand how the stats update. The point is that there are numerous threads about the irregularity of the stats updates and we still get this "noise" in the Adsense forum.

>>Hey you shouldn't be interested in yesterdays sales numbers
You don't get it, do you? Yesterday's sales figures could be put on your account next Monday. What part of the stats lag do you guys have a problem understanding?

>>Wouldn't want to be on the ship you're steering.
Please don't come on the ship. I could do without someone going overboard every few minutes to check for holes in the hull - that tends to panic the passengers ;)

I do understand how the stats update. I am seeing something truly irregular and that is why I started this thread.

If you think this thread is 'noise', there are many other threads here at WW. If the mods think this thread is not worthwhile, they will remove it.

The noise is msg #3. I even used a quote to explain it in my last post but you don't want to know. So keep jumping. Keep assuming everyone's out to talk down to you and you do your cause no favours.

Incidentally, your original post shows no understanding of the issue. If you were aware of the stats lag you would have qualified your post by explaining time frames as in: "I am experiencing a CTR that is 7 times higher than normal during the last week". If your high CTR relates to the course of today then please consider my original post relevant to you.

Forgive me (for message #3), I thought this was an open forum for discussions, rather than just your private area. I have been in adsense a long time and know how reporting updates throughout the day. I was merely reporting a similarly VERY unusual blip-ette in the reports, totally dissimilar to the usual ups n downs.

I'll keep my thoughts to myself in future

Once or twice a week? Now that would be real stressful. I'd be freakin out.

Or Google credited you with some previously frozen clicks.

I have been in adsense a long time and know how reporting updates throughout the day

So, you already probably knew the above. ;)

I've put up the below thread about stats. Some of the more knowledgeable publishers may add to it. Hopefully, it will serve to help the newer members who have questions on the basics.
