February 2013 AdSense Earnings and Observations

With the introduction of Google's new image layout I feel this could be a very trying month for many.

9:00am here and already at 2/3 of yesterday's earnings (which isn't much, unfortunately, except to reinforce the idea that AdSense reports probably span multiple days now).

I almost hate to say this, after reading what kind of month some of you are having, but, February has been OK and, as with the previous 6-8 months, so constant, it's almost boring.

One thing I should mention: Google kicked me a while back (Sept, 2011, I think) on somewhat dubious claims and I requested to be re-instituted back in March of last year and was put back in good standing in one day's time. Since then, my results have been better than before.

Lowest AdSense PVs of the year 64.6%

Earnings v 2013 at 98.72%

Earnings v February average 99.52%

At this rate I'll soon have no PVs with a 100% average earnings!

Back to normal metrics Monday but with above average EPC making a reasoonable day. So far so good, I can see where I have made changes an improvement in earnings.

Changes include image additions to my CMS gallery plus adding extra widget pages and images to my third largest site, in fact yesterday this site out-performed my second biggest site for the first-ever time.

US/Canada/UK averaged almost USD 1.00 per click yesterday, today so far it's 1/3rd of that ... it usually picks up during the evening.

I have been combing the internet, trying to find out what's wrong with my Adsense ads. I select text only, after seeing my text/image ads with so many c0ckroaches running around. It's really sickening to look at those ads, what's more, earnings have dropped drastically. I have written to Adsense's official forum but there has been no reply. My, am I glad to arrive here to see that this problem is not unique to me. Seems like even the text-ad-only function isn't working.

Yesterday had one of the highest page views all month but was also one of the lowest CTR days. Click count and earnings sharply down from the day before. WTF?

Seems like even the text-ad-only function isn't working.

Netmeg will correct me if I'm wrong however I don't think that text-only works when IBAs (Interest Based Ads) are served therefore if you don't clear-out your browser's cache and cookies on a regular basis the ad serving YOU see only gets worse and worse.

All my browsers are set to clear everything everytime I close a browser therefore I usually see nice clean, relevant AdWords across most sites however for anyone never cleaning out their browser, it must be a nightmare of junk ads.

Wednesday's earnings were 111.2% of Feb's average with a nice EPC of 123.3% although click volume and CTR were down, if I can equal my best day of the month today I'll be on par with January's daily average.

*Generally* when I've selected text-only, I see text-only. But Google does seem to reserve the right to override your settings under the guise of "testing". And yea, I wouldn't be surprised if IBAs override everything else.

It also depends somewhat on which size ad unit you're using.

After being out of internet for about 36 hours due to snow and ice, nice to see February finishing on an up note. 170% of last February.

Disappointedly, I'm seeing February ending at only 115% of February 2012 and 81% of last month - both comparisons using the daily average times 28 days.

It really should have been a stellar month but, CTR falloff from what I believe to be caused by "arrow annoyance" and paltry ad values on most days turned record page views and clicks into sub par earnings.

EPC ok today however an extremely low click volume (attributable to only 3 of my sites!) means earnings are not that good at the moment ... surely a click dump must be coming, I've never seen only 3 sites earn money.

Click volume very low here too today - seems to have been stuck for many hours, despite everything else reading normally. I suspect a click dump is forthcoming.

Hi HuskyPup, many thanks for your kind response. Someone at DigitalPoint Forum did advise me to clear the cache, which I did. Apparently, there has not been any difference.

Because I installed Feedjit Live Traffic Feed, my website response time seems to have been compromised a little. And from what I see, the text ads appear while my webpage is loading and once the page finishes loading, the text-ads are immediately replaced by graphic ads. If it is not too much trouble for you, can you take a look at <snip> and see whether the same thing also happens on your browser?

Adsense revenue had dropped drastically by 90%. Adsense just wrote to me and said: "At least 292 of the pages on <snip> are running less than three ad units. Adding any of our top performing units (336x280, 300x250, 728x90 or 160x600) to prominent sections of your pages will substantially increase your ad impressions and overall revenue."

I reduced most pages to 2 ads, as I have read in many forums that putting too much ads per page would compromise the quality and relevance of the ads. This recent message from Adsense really does make me more confused, LOL. But I know they are trying to help me. (I tried putting my 728x90 ads above the fold but apparently, I get better results by doing the reverse.)

I believe that has to do with how much content is on the page. I have 3 ad units on many pages, and the ads are very relevant and pay well. But they tend to be on long pages with a lot of text.

I am up on January even with only 28 days. Something weird happened in January and early Feb. Things seem somewhat normal now, but still a lot lower than February last year when I had better traffic. Still, glad to see a partial recovery.
