My two column layout site makes a good income from AdSense. I might be crazy, but today I have moved the position of my best performing ad to improve user experience of the site.
The article text use to wrap around the medium rectangle (300x250) ad at the beginning of each page. I think this was quite obtrusive (although I would like to hear what others think). I noticed that most sites position their ads on the left-hand side column (a less obtrusive location) so they do not interfere with the main article.
I have adopted this strategy, and moved the ad to the side menu of the article. However, the top of the ad is adjacent to my article title rather than the main text of the article.
My question is this: would the ad receive a higher CTR if the top of the ad was adjacent with the beginning with the first sentence of my article rather than the article title?
