newbie question: How do I identify keyword?

I was just checking my reports and noticed that I had one click that was $18.00 paying me $3.00--much higher than the rate I typically see. Of course my thought was, "I need more of those" but I can't really tell where it came from, which page or for which keywords... Can someone tell me how to tell what keyword triggered such a high payment? It doesn't seem that adsense really is telling me much in those reports--not anything I can use to optimize my ads if I can't even tell which ads are getting clicked on.

Everybody here's is dreaming of the $100-keyword. You cannot identify which keyword brought your high paying click. Nobody can as far as I can see that.

Channels are your friends to track which ads work best for your site.

When did you see your high paying click? Sometimes Google statistics do not work very accurate and CPM as CTR vary. I had a CTR of > 100% the other day... Take a look at your figures again tomorrow and see if it really was a high paying click.

Thanks for the help. I read a post from someone saying like "I just got paid for the word YOGA on my site... and was surprised how much it was..." so I assumed ther was a way to trace that back.

Do you set up channels for each ad that you do or for each website with different content? What is the most effective way to become "friendly" wtih channels as you suggest?

Maybe this guy had a page concerning the topic 'yoga' or he just wrote an article about that and was surprised by the cpm.

Using the channels depends on what you want to know. I use them mainly to track different types of ads, e.g. skyscrapers, large_rectangles and so on. Also I track ads placed on different locations on my site like articles or postings in forums.

There are not enough channels to track down to every single page of mine. I wish I could do that.

Take yourself a little time to experiment with different locations, formats and so on. It took me six weeks to find the best ads and the best locations. And I will keep experimenting.

The most important thing is: keep reading in this forum. Take some time to browse through all the postings here. It is worth every second.
