Adsense Vs Analytics

I noticed the other day that my Analytics showed 3,100 pageviews (2,924 Unique Views) for a specific page. So I checked Adsense and found only 2,007 page impressions.

I have noticed discrepancies before, but this is much bigger than before. Today I am seeing another page with large discrepancies. I bet the same thing will happen.

Why?

1. Some people block ads.
2. There are reporting delays.

Thanks eeek. I was thinking the same thing.... BUT

I don't think that is the case here though.

Reporting delays do not explain what happened two days ago. I don't think one third of all people block ads.

There has to be some other explanation.

Just for the fun-of-it, let me go back to July 10th, even further back, and pick another "specific page".

Adsense says I got 343 page impressions but Analytics said we got 349. Now that is within reason. In fact, all of the pages for that day look like they are in line with Analytics.

Looking back a few days, it just seems like that one page is out-of-whack. But I will always wonder if it cost us some money.

It must have been a fluke. Or maybe Adsense suspected something and stopped the ad impressions? I don't know. But just for that one page?

AdSense is never the same as Analytics for me. Never has been, never will be. For AdSense stats, go to AdSense. For page and visit stats, go to Analytics (but remember that accuracy varies up to plus or minus 25% or so) Google Analytics should not be taken as a complete reporting tool - it's more of an indicator of trends. Because it's not 100% accurate. And it's free.

I agree, I rarely see the same figures between Analytics and Adsense.

I have compared Analytics to Adsense since Google bought Analytics. The two are usually within a couple percent. I just checked other pages and the two were within two or three percent. I didn't see ANY page over that. But this one page was way out there at 33 percent.

If I had to trust one over the other, I would trust Analytics. Perhaps Adsense was unable to display ads for a while. I guess Analytics could go down too, but Analytics picked up more page views.

If it was a 25 percent or even 100 percent difference in some cases - it wouldn't be a big deal. For instance, if Adsense said 1 page view and Analytics said 2 pageviews. That would be a 100% difference.

But when you see 2000 pageviews on Adsense and 3000 "unique" pageviews on Analytics, that is strange. I don't remember seeing anything like that before.
