Max units = rankings loss ?

Like most everyone I've been receiving several reminders that I'm not maximizing my revenue and have 1000's of potential units to add.

Question - is there a NEGATIVE rankings impact from adding more units? There is a performance impact on my site, especially now that adsense uses non-minified inline css.

I'd like to listen to the advice google is giving but if I lose some serp positioning because of the extra ads it's just not worth it.

Matt Cutts said, that AdSense has no influence on Rankings.

However if you put 3 large rectangles ATF and push your content below the fold this might have an impact.

this might have an impact.

In so many ways. Visitors might be less likely to trust your site. Your site may suffer in the whole usability area. So it might not just be that Google dings you for having the ad units. It could be that Google dings you for the effect the ad units have.

So the more effective the ads are at getting clicked the harder it is for your site to build solid metrics, lower bounce rate, increase pageviews etc. got it.

There is page load time to consider too, I wish adsense would be optimized a bit more. Soon.

I also think I earn more when I don't max out the ad units on a page. More competition for the spots there are. If I used them all, I might get too many three cent ads and not enough three dollar ads.
