I have a note in my account that is asking me to add a "+1" button to my site. Is this similar to a Facebook "like" button?

Wawawawa wow!
I put the +1 button on my website and I went up one whole SERP! (999,999,999 to 999,999,998).
That's +1!

Well what happens when you don't have a lot of 'friends' in Google search, so hardly none click it? More search engine ranking loss because you are not popular enough in +1?. I wouldn't put it past them. They are putting too much credit on social networking when it comes to ranking now. Why give them more ammo? I see that +1 in my adsense interface as acobra trying to hypnotize me by looking in my eyes. I look away, quick.

It's just one of many many signals. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Any new wordpress plugin for the +1? I know another plugin but if you have a lot of sites saves you a lot of editing.

They integrated +1 Statistics into Webmastertools and Analytics yesterday. Just as a side note

Heh, and I removed all the +1's from my site yesterday (before they integrated the stats, or at least before they announced it) Nobody uses the stupid thing. If Google wants people to use it, they need to tell the NORMAL PEOPLE what it is, what it's for, and why and when to use it. Otherwise it's just a bunch of search people +1-ing their own sites. The button looks particularly stupid with 2 +1s next to a tweet button with several hundred tweets and a FB button with 3000 likes, too. Bleah. It's gone.

OK. So I added the +1 code to several test pages.
Later, I checked my +1 stats in Webmaster Tools. What did it say?
The 3 reported "+1s" I got were on pages that did NOT have the code. The 0 reported "+1s" I got were on pages that DID have the code.
NO CREDIT for using the code. NOT using the code gives +1 credit.
So, why should I use the d@mned code? And what is the +1 update frequency in GWT? Three months, like some other GWT parameters? This is not making sense. The phrase "wild goose chase" comes to mind.
Having to manually add 2 snippets of code, in two different places, on every page, is a pain in the bulltacos. And then we get lousy results? Not to mention piffing off Google Search, for adding YET ANOTHER lookup, which we have been told to eliminate?
I'm just about done here. I'll give it a week, then all the code gets removed.
ALSO, what is the difference between Google +1 (released), and Google+ (in beta). Sooooo confusing. Where is the Google Detailed Tutorial explaining the difference?

I not only removed the +1, I also removed Google Analytics today.

Curious indeed.
I have a recollection years ago that Google Analytics wasn't exactly in your interests.
I also recollect removing Google Analytics from my sites.
I can't remember why though.

If you're familiar with Facebook at all, think of the +1 Button as being similar to the ubiquitous Facebook Like button.
Whereas Google+ is Google's version of Facebook+Twitter+Skype all rolled into one. It's not just a button, it's a *place* (of sorts)

Ahh, thank you. I must read more. I can't keep up. Perfect description for the slow (witted?) adapter like myself. Just what I was looking for.
I seldom look at Google Analytics any more, and have considered removing it.
