I have set up backup URLs for some of my Adsense units. How can I test them, to see if they are showing up correctly?

The only way I've found to test it is with a page that gets PSA ads. If you don't have one, I know of no way to test.

Create a test page with a few lines of lorem ipsum and include adsense with a fall-back option on it. Then you should see if it works for you.

Try a locally hosted page?

I'm confused, what are you trying to do?
As DaStarBuG wrote "Create a test page with a few lines of lorem ipsum and include adsense with a fall-back option on it."
Are we missing something?

This could be risky but maybe you could try it on a test page filled with stop words.

There are two things that you can check:
1) Create a test page with an iframe the size of your ad that loads the backup URL to check that the backup ad loads properly.
2) Check if Adsense is fowarding to the backup URL by recording stats using one of the following methods: - If the backup URL is on your server, check your server logs for that URL. (Maybe Statcounter or Analytics would work on your backup URL - not sure though). - Use a PHP page for your backup URL with a logging program to record hits. - Use a specific ad at an alternate ad network only for backup ads and check your stats at that network.
Compare the stats with the coverage data in your Custom Channel report.
