Adsense Spaming

What kind of spam is this?

I was looking at a site that had three sets of ads on its page.

The ads on two of the sets were relevent to the site content. The third set, however, was for a personal injury subject.

At the bottom of the code for the third set was:
google_page_url = "hteeteep://www.aLawyersDomain.com/personalInjurySubject/";

What's this guy doing?

If your AdSense code is going to be added to a framed site, you can check a box under "Ad Settings" and the following will be added to the generated AdSense code:

google_page_url = document.location;

This allows AdSense's script to find the page in which the frame is displayed. "That guy" may be cheating by setting the value to point to a different page (one that doesn't exist, forcing MediaBot to base the ad on the URL).

Ahh, ok.

The site is not framed and I assume the site he's pulling it from is not his.

And I also assume it's against the TOS. Would that be right?

report him.

I know some on here think it's "bad form" to report others but we all have a collective responsibility to protect the viability and reputation of AS....so report him! Just click on the "ads by google" link on the relevant ad.

If you don't want to do it, pm me and I will!

Just to be clear. Is this so that he can display different adsense ads based on the content of the url that he has typed in, rather than the actual content of the page?

Just out of curiosity, what would be the point of displaying irrelevant ads (such as ads for personal-injury lawyers) on a page? How many readers of a page on widgets or Elbonian travel or Windows software are going to be in the market for a personal-injury lawyer at any given time? Wouldn't it make more sense to just throw together a site on personal-injury attorneys or "What to do and how to sue when you slip on an icy sidewalk"?

elbonian travel...you must be a dilbert reader

I would have said "Slobovian travel," but that would have dated me as a former Li'l Abner reader. :-)
