Adsense CTR problem (?)

Problem with Adsense or the site?

10:47 am on Mar 28, 2011 (gmt 0)

I have a problem with a new site, that really drives me crazy. I think, thereīs a problem with adsense or with the code, but I canīt figure it out, maybe you can help me.

My problem is, that the CTR is unbelievable low, usually about 1 %, 2 % if it was a good day. All my other sites (ad placement similar to this one) start at least with 7 or 8 %, which is ok for me. I tried to change the adsense settings - content based instead of interest based, blocked crappy ad categorys, not networks or special advertisers - and it worked pretty well for the first day, because now the CTR was up to 7+ %. I looked (not clicked the ads) through the site and the ads fitted the content (almost) perfectly.

I thought, I solved the problem, but the next day it was down to 1 - 2 % until now. I donīt really know whatīs wrong (again).

Maybe thereīs something wrong with the code, because I use a CMS (MySQL based), that Iīve written by myself, so I assumed, that the adsense code isnīt shown properly - but everything looks ok, when I check it with Firefox or Explorer (or I canīt see whatīs wrong).

Iīll be happy, if anyone could help me out, whatīs wrong.

On my 27" machine, your site appears to be aligned to the left. Perhaps that's the reason for lower CTR?

Also, I don't think this is the right place to show your site. We have a paid forum that could help you better.

Hm, my other sites are left-aligned too (same CMS) and they work quite well :(.

Ok, I centered it. Other hints are welcome.

1% to 2% is "unbelievably low"? Sounds about right to me.

usually about 1 %, 2 % if it was a good day

That's within my range, sure it was 6-7% a few years ago but that's where I am now no matter what I try.

Ok, I just wondered, because all my other sites run at 6 - 7 % and above - just this one is under the radar. I thought, this canīt be normal, because after I made the changes, the frist day was really going towards my expectactions.

Usually I expect the CTR to go down with many (10k - 100k+) visits, but not right from the start.

6-7% sounds unbelievably high to me. I wonder how high it would need to be to trigger alarm bells
