Is it worth it to remove ads for certain countries ?

I noticed some inetresting behavior regarding this

Hello,

At last Sunday there was a festival in India and my traffic from there dropped by almost 30% for this day, but something interesting happened. I earned almost the same and even more in compare with week days because of eCPM jumped.

Did anybody try to disable ads for certain countries to test this behavior ?

I once tested US versus "rest of the world". Did it by creating two identical ads, and showing one for US traffic (Using geolocation based on IP) and the other "for the rest".

It came to no surprise that the US one had a much higher eCPM then the others (being about 35% of traffic).

But it didn't change anything in overall income. It's just that some countries do not give you much value, hence lowering the eCPM. But I still want the revenue from those countries, even though its a much lower eCPM, it's still something I wouldn't otherwise have.

It may be nothing to do directly with India. It could be that the drop in your traffic caused the price of your ads to go up, this is not uncommon. It is one of the reasons that there are often discussions here about how many ad units to have per page. Sometimes, less is more.

So investigate very carefully about excluding Indian traffic altogether.

You can use Geo location IP table and compare against it. Easy to do.

I'm puzzled as to why anyone would essentially throw away free money? Or am I missing something?
