Using the previously used search terms for AdSense for Search

This really isn't allowed? Really?

I added a site search to my website a few months ago, as provided by AdSense for Search. It's a lot better than maintaining a site search myself, and it earns a few dollars a day, so what could be better?

What would be better is when someone performs a search, the search box on the search results page would have the previous search terms already filled in, just like every search engine on the planet does. Apparently this is against the program policies, since the program policies stipulate that the search box can not be pre-populated.

Really? It would be so easy to do and it would make it so much easier for my users to narrow down their searches. Shoot, Google could populate the search field themselves, but they don't.

Am I missing something here? This seems almost negligent on Google's part.

Pre-populating the field would be almost like text saying "click the ads", as it would entice people to run the search.

Besides, it's against the rules, hardly worth worrying about since we can't change it.

It would be the search terms that they already searched on, so they wouldn't hit search again unless the user altered the search terms.

Doesn't matter, it calls undo attention to the search box.

Not only that, once they allow it people would start pre-loading the search box with junk like mesothelioma.

Not that I don't agree it might make the site more useful but it's a bad idea for advertisers if there ever was one.

If you wanted to provide that functionality to your visitors, maybe you could disable the ads when those convenience links are used or just swap in contextual ads for those views.
