Why is Google advertising Chrome and adsense on my site?

Hi,

My website's niche has wide range of advertisers, but for quite few weeks i am seeing all the major spots are being used for Google itself for Adsense and Crome.

My website is not related to internet or any kind of educational program, then why google is using it for adsense and crome ads?

When google ad comes, i see decrease in earning.

Are you guys seeing same ads?

There are quite some threads around here with earning complaints recently. I even see ads for the SE itself in the top spots, while they have a 90%+ market share already in my country.

I haven't seen them on my own sites, but I've seen them out and about. Supposedly those ads go into the auction like all the others, which means they're supposedly the highest paying ads available at that particular moment in time.

If I started seeing them all over my stuff all of a sudden, I'd probably work on some text and other clues to improve my targeting and get some better advertising. But that's me.

Google is targeting YOU! :D But I am sure regular users get relevant ads served, esp based on what they searched on Google or the content of your website.

Yeah, one of my sites was cluttered with their ads. I'm testing a competitive ad filter block on google.com. It's not only Chrome and adsense ads but Nexus, Adwords and probably lots of others. google.com should take care of it. International Google extensions haven't tried yet.

Not if you've already blocked them. I've never let Google advertise on my sites.

I have always seen Google ads in adsense. My favorite ad is the "Set Google as your homepage". At any rate, keep in mind that different ads appear to different users. Also, regardless of your sites "niche", any visitor to it is using a browser...so why not chrome. :)

This could be true. Recent reports have indicated there is reason to believe that a high percentage of websites visitors use a web browser, although most researchers are saying "more studies should be done."

jecasc, Google has always claimed they play by the same rules as other advertisers when promoting their products on Adsense, so yeah, they're paying ads.

i'm wondering at times if it still makes sense to debate among webmasters which ads they spot on their own sites at a given situation. as probably google's targeting technology has evolved so far that such discussions should become futile?

i mean, take a typical visitor: most probably google user, with his individual set of product searches and website visits all tracked down by adsense and analytics code, cookies and javascript on by default, rather seldom cleaning up all his browsing history. how do you want to reproduce that? even then, if you switch your ip and clean your cache regularly, you will not get the results your average visitor gets.

Google has always maintained that it's ads compete in the same way other ads do. This is a non issue unless you are concerned with their relevance to your visitors needs.

Me? I'd look forward to using a faster Firefox plus bing. But I'm not holding my breath for a faster Firefox 4. The beta doesn't bode well.

I uninstalled Chrome and will never install it again. I hadn't used it for months, and it would try and send "something" every so often through the firewall. Whatever it was it was trying to do, the firewall stopped it. Enough is enough, and I removed it.

It appears the "something" that Chrome was trying to send was a report to Google on your browsing history and other such info.

Even if you have uninstalled the chrome from your PC, don't assume that the Google Chrome spyware has been completely removed from your PC.

As is detailed in the following old thread here on webmasterworld, the spyware installed with google toolbar remains on the PC even after toolbar is uninstalled from a PC and continue to send the data from that PC to google.

If history is any indication of future behavior, then you can safely assume that the spyware that is reporting your usage pattern to google will likely remain on your PC even after Chrome is removed from it.

The issue isn't whether Chrome is good or evil, the issue is why is Google shoving ads for Chrome and AdSense into people's websites that aren't about technology.

Talk about off target ad placement!

Also note the new AdSense interface doesn't have a category to allow you to opt-out of Google's propaganda ads.

If there are no available ads and Google decides to advertise on my site, I'd just as soon they display nothing whatsoever so my AdSense alternate ads can be displayed instead.

I saw these bloomin' Google ads on the London Underground today as well (video ad screens on the escalators).
BTW, why use Chrome when you can use Chromium?
