Tim Carter is recommending using adsense because it has relevant ads, Then why is he using chitika, If you want you can see for yourself at the bottom of the page[askthebuilder.com ]Is chitika pays better than Adsense?

erm, i'm confused - the person you mention, who i won't mention again incase it was a spam link drop, is also on the chikita site (get started as a publisher page) recommending chikita

- i imagine his recommendations are probably more about trying to get a bit of self publicity!

Yeah, he's clearly using Adsense... He has quite a bit of ads running on each page.

He's using adsense in the money spots above the fold. Then he's using a second tier program to scrape the bottom of the web page as advertising backfill. The chitika is at the bottom of the page.

Obviously, his strategy is to squeeze as much revenue out of the page as possible. In order to do that he maximizes the amount of AdSense ad units above the fold. THEN he squeezes whatever extra revenue he can by adding Chitika to the bottom of the page, a section that is difficult to monetize. It's a smart strategy. It's the same strategy supermarkets employ by placing chocolates and magazines at the checkout counter. It's squeezing as much revenue as possible from every pixel/inch of space.

Big deal? Hardly. I always have used affiliate links at the end of articles and at the bottom of the page to squeeze every last drop of revenue from each page of every site I run.

I just visited the link and saw a Chitika ad in a prime position above the fold on the right side - not sure why I saw it because those ads are supposed to be generated based on a visitor's search terms and I didn't search to visit the page.

I also saw a label of "PLUMBING DESIGN" right above an AdSense link unit on the left above the fold. I'm pretty sure that label above the ad links is against the terms for regular publishers - is this guy a premium publisher - is that "term" waived for premium publishers?

Tim has a special adsense account and when the adsense recommendations were made he was running 8 ad units per page (not counting link units or search boxes) instead of the limit 3. Not long after the 8 ad boxes were reduced to 3 the chitika showed up.

Chitika doesn't pay what adsense does on most topics but I suppose nothing pays more than 8 big units per page either.

The category pages look like textbook MFA now.

Also, Chitika is CPM now so the bottom of the page earns as much as the top and clicks earn nothing.

I see four Google ad units on that page. I guess premium account holders can have more.

One thing that annoys me is that we cannot see the premium TOS.

I have seen premium accounts that present you with an advert the moment you click on a SERP... then take you to the page you wanted.

I can spot 5 adblocks and 2 adlinks - but no chikita.
That page is very plastered with ads, and some of the layouts violate rules.
Amazing...

There are 3 adlinks... two above the fold.

Scroll down to where it says "too aggressive with your wrench and elbow grease."
Below that is the chikita advert, and below that is the 3rd adlink.

Indeed - 3 adlink blocks - so much junk on the page that its hard to find them all.
Although the layout has changed a little since I last loaded the page; there is now a chikita block down the bottom where there were previously 2 adsense blocks.
Amazing!

Ah, when I check the source I see Google code for what looks like 8 ad slots - I assume that is adblocks + adlinks. Vague memory that this alternate code is for premium publishers, which he would have to be to run so many adblocks legitimately.
Bit disappointing that he's allowed to break the layout rules so blatantly :(

it looks like he's been following all those advice emails that adsense used to send us every month... add more blocks... add more link units... add more blocks above the fold...

I thought that was wrong! (but thought it might be just another one of those words the Americans have decided a variant spelling is better...)

Not really. If you are a high income publisher, Chitika can set your ads in such a way that they are shown to all visitors, not only those who arrived your site via search. That's why you saw the ads even if you didn't search to visit the page.

I actually like how he implements his ads. Yes, he's got a lot of ads, but he is able to present it without being spammy. I think the ads are clean. Wrong spelling or not, the content is excellent for his topic.

I 've talked with Tim a few months ago at an event in the Google offices in DC. He has tested his ads extensively. Similar to our experience, the "prime position" in the right side section is not really as prime in terms of click throughs, so he placed a Chitika ad in that area instead.

That is a minefield of adverts and I wonder if the misspelling of pedestal is intentional? For sure it does not affect the contextual adverts.....
