Hi fork
You talkin to me? ;)
I'll step in here, even though I think that was a typo and not intentially aimed at me, the one and only Shortfork ;-)
I added up to two extra towers on my pages, if only to fill the vacant space that longer pages wound up leaving when I ran an article longer on a single page rather than generating a new page each time it reached the bottom of the ad and other stuff that is on the sides of the pages.
I did not do what I should have done, put the additional ads in as channels so I could track just what is getting the clicks... however, my CTR has not changed but income has gone up...
The income going up seems totally unrelated to the additional ads, however. Last month was the end of run of a lot of lodging ads for locations that my site covers events at.. They seemed to be paying a lot less per click than they had at peak season. Beginning this month, a lot of gift type ads related to my subject matter have appeared and they seem to be paying very well per click. Although, I rarely see the extra ad blocks filled now. Quality over quantity I guess..
I don't think I really answered your question but I think the answer is going to be different for every site you might put them on. In your case, try additional blocks of ads, use code that is from a separate channel and then track the clicks and see if you get more with the new blocks in place..
Just be careful that you don't put them in an annoying way.

I wonder if this was just a coincidence or what. Has anyone else experienced such a thing? My sites had never gone PSA before and they went back shortly after I took the second ad off. Hey, your sites going all PSAs really does put terror in ones heart.
