Potentially The Worst Day Of The Year?

Formula 1, Wimbledon, World Cup...What Else?

Yikes, I may as well switch all my sites off today, extremely low traffic levels so far for me...anything big happening in the US as well just to finish it off completely?

Summer, vacations, 4th of July. My seasonal site is having its best year ever, but I only have about a week left on that.

Ditto! Back-to-back days of irregular income.

Feeling a bit sad that I was able to only help others (Sharing knowledge), and not myself (low revenue) :D

I hope Adsense are working on sending us some gift from our money.

It wouldn't be a gift if we are paying for it.

I agree this is a very bad day! Sundays are one of my best days normally and this is truly pathetic!

Had the lowest earnings since Christmas Day!
(Kinda glad England were knocked out!)

Oh, I assume thank you USA clickers!

I had an overnight surge and ended up with my best Sunday of the month:-)

Also thanks go to lending us Stevie Wonder for the night.

No surge here - wound up at only 1/3 of average :-(

Normal is Sunday the best day of the week.

But the combined effect of

* good weather
* soccer WM
* Forumla 1

made this Sunday 8% below monthly average

Impressive prediction Huskypup, Sunday was a total bomb! Worst in 6 years. Amazing call.

And I forgot - both quarter-based and semester-based students are out of school now, too.

Yes, I'll second walrus's admiration, Huskypup. I was grateful for this thread - it made me feel a lot better, at least until I found out you did well after all, at which point things looked bleak, not that I begrudge you your good day, but then hearing about bad days feels better. Misery loves company and hates it when company pops over to the corner cafe for a bite of sweet success. ;)

My family is now going to have to deal with my whining all week as the 4th of July holiday vacations this week and next deliver blow after blow to my US based content...

At least, that's what I'm telling myself is happening.

That's why I love the Internet. You can always, but always find evidence for your preferred hypothesis...somewhere. And my favored hypothesis is this is an "Earth is in the seventh house and Jupiter aligns with Mars" kind of blip.

That's the puzzling thing, my trade directory site had one of this month's highest unique vistor stats at some 50% more than last Sunday whereas my main B&M site had precisely the metrics I was expecting, really, really low.

Are we heading for a wash-out this Sat/Sun/Mon 3/4/5 July?

When the July 4 holiday happens, or is observed, on a Monday or Friday, then typically American office supervisors see many vacation requests for the week before and the week after the holiday weekend, because folks try to make the most of their vacation day allotment by adjoining it to a holiday (i.e., they use only four vacation days, but get a whole week plus two weekends off).

This year, July 4th is observed on Monday, July, 5. So lots of U.S. folks will take this week and next week off.

That's my theory, anyway, to buffer me against potential disappointment.

But it's also likely that the poor economy is preventing people from going on actual holiday, which means maybe we'll see more "Internet holidays" taken.

So that may cancel out the effect.

Hmmm. This is starting to sound like that scene in The Princess Bride when Wesley argues with the Sicilian. "But you know I know you know you might bluff..." But the Internet really is like that. So many effects that average each other out. So when we actually see variance, it seems really significant, and it is. We just don't know how significant, or why it's significant...

I've just been looking up AdSense earnings from the very start of the programme and, interestingly, only 2009 showed a significant dip in earnings on 3rd and 4th July, all other years and days around that period remained normal.

Heh...now watch it crash spectacularly this year!

Huskypup - We do have the hearings for a supreme court nominee although I would rather give myself a root canal with a rusty dull dremel tool than watch it.
