decay in CPM during month

Hey all,

My site is a general information site with many different topics, and I have had about 200 pages with adsense over the past few years. I notice that the CPM I earn decays through the month. The first few days of the month always yied considerably higher CPM's than the last few days of the month. The traffic is roughly the same, just the CPM's decay throughout the month.

I assume this occurs because advertizers using adwords set monthly budgets, many of which run out towards the end of the month.

Because of this, I'm thinking about changing the ads to some other program (commission junction, linkshare, bing ads, whatever) for the last week of the month to see if I can get a better cpm at the end of each month.

My questions are:

- Do many of you experience similar decays?

- Do you agree with my suspicion for the reason? If not, why do you think this happens?

- Have any of you tried other programs like I'm considering and do you have any tips?

Nope, mine are pretty consistent all month, I believe my advertisers tend to use daily rather than monthly budgets.

Do you agree with my suspicion for the reason? If not, why do you think this happens?

This has been reported here quite often...I suppose it depends on the business size, probably the larger the business the more likely it is to have a monthly budget. My advertisers tend to be SMEs and many of them family run therefore hands-on and adjust budgets according to their needs instead of what the company dictates.

My widgets are also very expensive and focussed therefore probably not as likely to have random surfing clicks.

Have any of you tried other programs like I'm considering and do you have any tips?
