Why are my CTR and eCPM next to nothing?

Hey everyone.

I've recently started using Adsense on my site. I'm getting a decent amount of impressions/clicks - This is data from the last 4 days or so.

Impressions Clicks CTR eCPM Total
30,829 73 0.24% $0.59 $18.29

I don't understand why my CTR/eCPM are so low.

If I look at the report for just today, it is even lower, about .10%, and eCPM like 10 cents.

What am I doing wrong?

The website it is on is a free hosting service and I have ads on the support forums (leaderboard on top and bottom), the front/information page (2 486x60 and 1 box on the sidebar), and one leaderboard on the bottom of all hosting user pages.

I feel like I'm losing out on a lot of money with those stats.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

How can you be losing money if it is hosted for free ?
Google does not guarantee set amounts. And to top it off, forums do not pay out well.

Your click ratio is .24%...what did you expect? Also depends on the topic of the forums as well.

I'm providing the hosting, it is free for my users, not me.

My post is asking what are some common reasons why they are so low and what I can do to fix it as far as ad placement, types of ads, etc.

That's not what you said..."The website it is on is a free hosting service"

He means, the website the ADSENSE is on is a free hosting service. the "it" in his post refers to AdSense. ;)

I'm going to throw in my standard:

Impressions Clicks CTR eCPM Total
30,829 73 0.24% $0.59 $18.29

Just a reminder, you're breaking the Adsense TOS.

It's against the TOS to share that information? I wasn't aware of that.

Yes it is...

Confidentiality. You agree not to disclose Google Confidential Information without Google's prior written consent. "Google Confidential Information" includes without limitation: (a) all Google software, technology, programming, specifications, materials, guidelines and documentation relating to the Program; (b) click-through rates or other statistics relating to Property performance in the Program provided to You by Google;

People on this forum break this rule all the time. I guess they don't value Adsense as much as I do. Besides, as a business person I take these agreements pretty seriously.

My apologies. Anyway does anyone have any kind of tips for me as to what things there are to do to improve eCPM?

Are you talking about increasing your eCPM or your click-through-rate? As far as your eCPM goes to increase it you just have to put more higher-paying keyword content into your site and you can find lots of websites that purport to have such lists all over the Internet.

If you are talking about increasing your click-through-rate then that is going to depend on a lot but start increasing your traffic to increase the potential number of clicks that you will get.
