There are several ways people online have listed of getting them into the posts via editing the html but if they don't have an easy way of doing it does it mean that it isn't allowed?
You can only place adsense on the side bars and below and above the posts on the blog itself, not inside.
I want to have them in the posts but don't want to mess up my relationship with adsense as well. Does anyone know if this is against adsense policy somewhere?
Thank you.

Blogger is owned by Google, why would it be against their own policy?

I don't do that in WP, quite simply I have my AdSense code blocks & links already pasted in a text editor on my desk top and select whichever I require to go where I want it to in the article I am writing.
I have a fairly standard way of doing things therefore a blog may look like this:
WordPress Post - Article Title Goes Here
In the text area:
I use a 468 x 60 block at the top followed by:
Article text and images
Depending how long the text is and how many images dictates how many ads however it is easy enough to post ads alongside images and text left or right.
Text finishes and I use a 336 x 280 block followed by my own tracking anaylsis programme code.
Job done...is that what you are asking?
FWIW my blogs' CTR is 300% of my normal CTR!
if someone uses a blog reader
Sorry, no idea, I don't use them.
