Hey everyone.
I've got a wallpaper site that I put up years ago when I first got started learning how to build websites and using php etc.

The thing is I never monetized it, lately it’s been getting quite a lot of traffic from the search engines, so I'm wondering would it be wise to add adsense to it?

The reason I ask is to do with the digital copy write act thingy, obviously I did not take these pictures and do not own the rights to them. But you still see loads of these wallpaper sites that have adsense on them.

I do not want to endanger my adsense account for a few extra bucks, but I hate to leave money on the table too.

So does anyone know if these kind of sites are ok by Google?

If you have wallpaper or whatever content, graphics, etc. on your site that you have taken from somewhere else and used without permission and the owner files a DMCA complaint with AdSense, your AdSense account would be at risk if you have AdSense on the site.

...but I hate to leave money on the table too.

There are at least two honorable options for you.

One is to take the content (wallpaper or whatever) that belongs to someone else off your site. That would probably eliminate the site from being able to make money and thus you wouldn't have to think you're leaving money on the table.

Two would be to create your own content and use that to make money.

If someone left his wallet on a table while he went to the restroom, would you take some cash from his wallet because you hate to "leave money on the table?" It's the same basic concept.

Let your conscious be your guide, not your concern about being caught by AdSense and suffering the consequences they woud issue.

I also have wallpapers (with descriptions and additional info) of my own pictures. I understand what you say but I would file a DMCA to anyone using my pictures with no credit (I've done it so far). Why? you said it:

...but I hate to leave money on the table too.

Me too, but in own my table, that's why I work.

Do some hard work on your own (no offense) and you will "feel" right away what is like to be on the shoes of the ones whose work is taken away to put adsense, the result: being protective with your work.

Thanks for your replies.

Just to clear things up, yes I do create my own content (when inspiration hits me) and my sites are totally different from this particular wallpaper site I mentioned, and yes I would be liable to put a hit out on someone stealing my content.

It's just when I first got started I bought a popular wallpaper script (just google "wallpaper script" and you'll find it) with wallpapers included, and learned to customise it on my localhost.

Only now it’s pulling in a fair bit of traffic it got me thinking if I could monetize it.

There's no way I would risk my account over it so I guess I'll leave it be.

Put your own ads on it to your other sites that you *do* monetize.

That tip is as good as gold.

Yeah that is a good idea, but the topics are like chalk 'n cheese.

Replace the images with images that are good enough and were you have all the rights needed.
Just letting it be isn't an option.
Committing copyright infringement is a crime.

Eh, you just have to be creative about it. If you have the space, it's not taking away from anything, and you might get some takers.

I can think of at least 7 ways to sell cheese to chalk users, and maybe three to sell chalk to cheese eaters. I bet you can too.
