We didn't get one last year. :(

Any chance this year will be different?

>>>Then I'd have half a chance of being there as that's my neck of the woods.

I don't know what the cost to Vegas from your area was last month, but it's currently $53 each way from Reno/Las Vegas. I do know that the Sahara was offering room rates as low as $13 per night. So that's less than $200 for travel and room for four days.

$13/night is dirt cheap! I'd be driving though, not flying.

Something called a full time job does tend to get in my way for something at a distance. If it were up at this end of the state then I could do both as I work graveyard.

I apologize, didn't want to take the thread off topic. Just wanted to acknowledge that the Google AdSense team did make an effort to meet personally with you.

Back on topic:

On the one hand, a gift is something freely given by one party to another. Publishers are entitled to be paid their earnings. Publishers are not entitled to a gift. Or are they? Are publishers entitled to a gift? Do you feel you are entitled to a gift?

On the other hand, some feel that Google does not make sufficient gestures to show their appreciation for the publishers. Is that what is at the root of this discussion?

An seasons greetings email would be nice. But it's probably hard to measure the ROI on that, so I don't expect one.

That said, if an email is too costly, I'd rather have prompt meaningful and accurate communication about problems and new features than a gift.

I feel this x-mas stuff is highly overrated. December is just another month - and in fact one of my worst months of the year every year as I've no sites that dig in on the seasonal frenzy.

Whining about not getting presents, about not being paid earlier, and whatnot: what's it good for aside of showing we're an ungrateful bunch.

Anyway if you feel like it's gift season: then by all means GIVE gifts, stop demanding them from others. I'm sure you can sticky ASA for a mailing address to send cards to the right team to show your appreciation.

Well said swa66! It seems very mean spirited to expect a gift just because we have received one in the past.

Whining about ...

As opposed to what, whining about others whining?

:)

At least it doesn't make me look ungrateful ;)

Are we be a funny bunch consuming time over unrealistic expectations.

A lot like writing letters to Santa.

Not everyone has. I finally make enough on AdSense to be deemed gift-worthy and then they stop giving gifts. Maybe they could give gifts to people who haven't received one yet?

Do you hear ASA moaning that we haven't given him/her any presents ? No.

And why should you get a present ? I get one from Google every month, it's called "Payment Received"... far more important than PIP or Presents.

ASA was kind enough to explain that it was not an appropriate gesture for Google to send out Christmas gifts last year given the global economic conditions.

[webmasterworld.com...]

Why would anyone think things have gotten any better?

Yep. A simple ecard would be sufficient.

Yep. A simple ecard would be sufficient.

And by not doing so helps the planet :)

rustybrick, the only member in that thread that said they actually received a gift was a new member, who signed up that day and never returned to WebmasterWorld, hardly a reliable source.

I find that the less I *expect* from Google, the less I am disappointed. Everything good is a happy accident. I'd rather focus on what I can do for me (which I can control) than what Google can do for me (which I can't)

Goodle has helped fund my retirement. That's enough for me.

I honestly don't know about gifts this year, but I haven't heard anything.

I'm sorry you guys don't feel like you have enough of a connection to the AdSense team. I feel like I know most of you at this point. If you're a publisher in good standing with AdSense and you're ever in the Bay Area, shoot me a private message and I'd be happy to invite you to lunch at Google.

I'm still voting for cash, send us an ecard with a $5 bonus at a minimum just for sticking with AdSense ;)

Maybe to propose a voucher to get the Google cell phone cheaper and earlier.

I'm sorry you guys don't feel like you have enough of a connection to the AdSense team.

You have nothing to be sorry about. The AdSense team does a great job of communicating to the publishers through their blog and WebmasterWorld.

This is a classic case of the "silent majority", where a very few voice their opinions. way too often, to make it appear that they are the majority.

Keep up the great work AdSense team.

Maybe in view of the adsense xmas card thread, we should be sending adsense an xmas card?

Is that really an invitation ASA? I could base a whole business funded (read "tax deductible") trip on the basis of getting a meeting at Google with ASA!

I really think that might just stand examination by those kind guys and gals at HMRC.

I bet it's real. I have a standing invitation over at AdWords, which is about a mile from me. I'm just too busy to ever get down there.

Thanks, rocker. I'll share your message with the team.

Is that really an invitation ASA?

Sure, but I wouldn't travel all the way to California just to visit Google for lunch. The food is good, but I wouldn't say it's that good.

I just realized I typed Goodle instead of Google in my last post. Sorry for the typo. And I even just had an eye exam.

I have sent them a e-card every year since 2003 as I do for all of our business partners.

If anyone has seen it or if it has been spam filtered for 6 years is another story :)

I think a good Christmas present from Google would be a short email giving us first crack at the Google phone just ahead of any public roll out. Give us a courtesy option ahead of the average folk to see if we are interested.

Sure, but I wouldn't travel all the way to California just to visit Google for lunch. The food is good, but I wouldn't say it's that good.

But the sights, food and cocktails in San Francisco *IS* worth the trip!

I've been here 20+ years now, so many fine restaurants, so little time (and parking) ...
