After changing the adsense banner background to the same color as my website background, I tried showing adsense ads on every single page of my site.[190K impressions per day 50K Uniques] I had a very low ctr & a cpm that was 2 times higher than my adtegrity banners. That wasn't what I was expecting from adsense. So thinking that my adsense ads were over exposed, I took them all down and placed them only on my main page. What happened was my cpm went up a consistant 300% and my ctr doubled. My main page only gets 24-27K impressions per day but it is able to make 50% of what I was making showing my ads 190K times. In conclusion, I think showing your ads 1-2 times to a visitor instead of 3,4,5+ is the best way to maximize your adsense ctr & cpm. You don't have to have a hosting site, or mortgage site to make a buck CPM.

If you are going to be selective about which pages you put adsense on, then I'd go for those pages that are most likely to be exit pages anyhow.

Might as well get paid as long as the visit is over.

Of course if you have a better paying exit option, feature that.

I see what you're saying. I guess it's different for me since more than half of my visitors do not visit my main page, they are just directed from google to whatever song lyrics they searched for. But anyway what I'm trying to do is make the most out of google, without having to waste any of my ad space. Being selective is getting me the best cpm and the best click thru ratio possible. If you show the same ads over and over, banner, sky's whatever, you're not going to get the best click thru ratio and you're just going to waste your ad space.

same experience here (15M adsense impressions/mo on a 100M+ pvs/mo site):
- don't show ads to members of the site
- don't show ads to non-members after 7 page views

==> users love it and some members are not even aware that the site has ads.

Yesterday I redesigned my site and rearranged my ads and now I got a whopping 0.7% clickthrough rate, that's almost double of my 0.4% CTR before I rearranged my ads. It turns out that if I place it somewhere where people will read it, more people will click it. I just made today 3.5 times the amount I used to make and im very happy!

Sorry I forgot to mention something else too

The type of google ad I used to use was the wide skyscraper with 5 text ads showing at a time. Now I minimized it to the 250x250 square ad with 3 ads showing at a time. Information overload might also play a part in CTR.

Your logic is beyond my understanding. Your CTR and CPM are way up, but you income is DOWN 50%. Remind me to never hire you to run my company.

His Adsense income might be down, but we don't know the whole story until he tells us what else he's doing with the spaces that used to show Adsense.

Exactly.. I replaced my 170K google ads and put websponsors.com free stuff banners. I get between .25-1.00 per lead, which comes out to a $.38 CPM average the past 2 months. Better than google adsense ads being shown 170K times. Oh and that's not including the adtegrity sky's that I placed which are cpm based and I don't have to worry about people clicking to get the cpm I want. I don't know why people put google ads everywhere like they were paying cpm or something. So anyway, $.38cpm + sky's + adsense cpm = 2 times more than my best day with google ads all over the place.

Let me sum it all up. By placing your google ads on every page of your website, you basically give yourself no control over what you're cpm is going to be for that day. It's all luck if you do it this way. That's why so many people are like "oh my cpm for adsense is down anybody elses see a decrease today?" or some people get all happy because they got a high cpm for only one day. With adsense you want to give yourself the best chance at getting the best click thru ratio possible so you can get the highest cpm possible. With cpm companies, you can just put their ads anywhere and everywhere and make .12-.25 CPM or whatever. Lets say you are showing 120K 468 banners & 120 Sky's you're not going to get the best ctr possible per 1000 impressions. So what you have to do is pick whatever works best for you, sky's or banners. Then you want to show your adsense ads to as many uniques as possible because 700 people trying to click 1000 ads is better than 250 people trying to click 1000 ads at the same rate. Then put cpm ads to fill the rest of your ad space. This way you get the most out of google and you take advantage of the fact that they are a cpc company.
