For the last month or so my stats package (Goog analytics) has been telling me that I am getting between 20-80 VISITS each day from "googleads.g.doubleclick.net" (listed in referring sites in Analytics). These are identified as visitors in analytics and I have no integration with Adsense).

What does this mean?

Oh, and also while the referrals from the above URL were coming in my Adsense eCPM went up 500% (woohoo, pity it's stopped now, as have the referrals).

I'm totally confused. Any guidance gratefully accepted.

Sounds like you were running ads, or someone was running ads, directing traffic to your server.

There are tools to set your referrer string yourself. E.g. the RefControl add-on in Firefox.
Maybe you have a visitor who likes to confuse your stats.

I too get referrals from googleads.g.doubleclick.net. In my case they seem to come from the alternate ad pages that I have set up, in case AdSense does not show ads for some reason. These alternate ads are just links to my own pages.

Thanks for the suggestions. Not sure that any really make sense. Weird.

I've seen Adsense ads for my site on my site in the past and I don't even have an Adwords account. Why? I really don't know.
