I'm seeing the highest traffic I ever had on my sites, but the income is 1/4 of what it used to be. I'm experiencing blank ad spaces, religious ads (FAR from what my sites are about). I activated the "interest based ads" on the beginning of September and just turned it off, 9 days might be little and just coincidence but I don't like the results. This are by far my lowest 9 days ever.
The religious ads were appearing before this, so is not about the interest based thing.
ouch, it hurts, funny thing is now I'm getting more traffic and emails from people wanting to by services. Time for plan B :)

Or maybe Plan B should have been Plan A all along. :-)
AdSense has never been the best revenue option for every site, and as the network evolves, the gap between the "It's working great for me" crowd and the "It isn't working at all for me" group will continue to grow.
Fortunately, most sites aren't locked into long-term contracts with AdSense, so it's easy enough to remove the AdSense code from most pages, leaving it on just enough pages so you'll know if your AdSense eCPM improves with the economy.
his click through rate is bound to plummet if he's suffering from those. it doesn't mean that his site is a bad fit for adsense, it just means that he has to report what he's experiencing to google so they can fix it, or sit it out until it improves.
i don't think you're alone, explorador. there have been a few threads in this forum recently about untargeted ads.

Are you aware of any sites that DO have long-term contracts? If this is possible, what would be the publisher advantages I wonder...
By the way, falling ctr could be partly attributed to the "larger fonts effect" slowly fading away. It is not as catchy if you get used to it.

MySpace had a three-year contract with an upfront guarantee. I'd imagine that some other huge "premium publishers" have had similar deals.

I'd guess that many of us have had bouts of poorly-targeted ads (at least on some pages) over the years. Whenever I've encountered it, the problem has gone away after a few days.
One thing that can help, I think, is to have an editorially diverse site within your niche. If you have a site about fishing and you're getting ads for fish merchants instead of fishing gear, having subtopics that are easier for the targeting mechanism to interpret may be helpful (e.g., pages on lures or bait or bobbers, which may be less prone to mistargeting than a more general word like "fish").
Just today, I published an article with the word "houses" in it and saw locally geotargeted ads for housecleaning services in the Ads by Google block. That was poor targeting, unless Google has been peeking through my windows and seeing dust bunnies. Fortunately, I've got thousands of other pages with different keyphrases, so blatant mistargeting on a handful of pages isn't having any noticeable effect on EPC, CTR, or eCPM.
