I noticed another interesting thing. The image ads are served by dpbolvw dot net in addition to our friend googlesyndication dot com. I think these image ads are coming from the new Authorized Network category ads.
I haven't blocked any of those, but may be I should to see if AdSense obeys text-only directive.
dpbolvw dot net
no i don't see images in my text only ads yet. what a mess.
but that's funny: i remember this web address from the time i used to fight against a horde of cheap ebay affiliates. it was one of them that i had to put in my filter list. they are all coming from shady commission junction. they used several of these crap domains to circumvent our filters. when google disallowed affiliate ads for the same destination back then, they disappeared and the problem was solved.
well, seems that they are back again in this way :( i don't think it's google. otherwise it would be really nasty of them. i rather think they have found a way to trick the system. be prepared for more. filter them. report to google.
hey, seems google has invited a bunch of really nice guys to their "authorized network". speaks volumes regarding the quality.. image ads is a disaster.
dpbolvw dot net
Absolutely second what moTi says. I first blocked them summer 2006, along with a couple of other domains from the same company.

Yup, makes you wonder how desperate they are in MV. I just hope they will mostly respect our "text only" ads directive.
I kept seeing image ads on this particular text-only unit for some time after posting this.
So I decided to replace my legacy code with the shorter "Manage Ads" version of the JS. Checked after a while and text-ads are back to normal.
I'm not sure if the "Manage Ads" shorter script forced AdSense to obey text-only directive. Could be just an overall glitch. I still use the legacy code on 98% of my pages as it gives me more room to maneuver, and will continue with them.

moTi: This is indeed very interesting! Will keep an eye on more such domains.
