When Did The Arrows Disappear?

No extra ad results on my sites!

Was that this weekend's maintenance change?

I know one thing, my earnings are down a long way so far today, could it be this?

And there are plenty of ads on the Google SERPs pages for my widgets.

Interesting...on all pages I have a 728 x 90 leaderboard in the same position and none of them have arrows however on one site I have a few pages with a 160 x 600 skyscraper and that is still showing arrows.

Roger this, Husky. Same here: no more arrows on the 728x90 leaderboard, but still on the 160x600 skyscraper. Now, why would Google remove those arrows? :-)

Almost certainly not. How many of your visitors click on the ads? And how many of these click on the arrows (and then on the ads)?

Someone at the Plex is reading this...my arrows have reappeared...now let's see what happens with earnings.

Dunno however if I'm on a site with interesting ads I use them.

It's the pioneers who usually get the arrows. And they often live short, turbulent lives.

It would be interesting to find out how many people actually use those arrows to rotate the ads and then choose one? It seems to me that someone will be far more likely to click if they use the arrows. But how many actually use them?

To take this a step further, Google could develop the arrows into a more complete navigation set, including a descriptive title that says something like "View more ads on this topic." I think a lot of publishers would complain, but it might increase CTR.

We still have the arrows within all ad units on our site.

I suspect they might disappear when there are not enough relevant ads for the particular page/location (and, as we know, when there are no relevant ads at all, PSA's are shown).

Another reason could be that Google is performing one of their regular A/B tests without your explicit consent.

Could also be linked to larger font sizes. I noticed that the arrows were gone when 3 ads with larger fonts populate a leaderboard; when 4 ads were present (smaller fonts), there still were arrows. Looking at the ads, I noticed that there is just not enough room for the arrows with the larger fonts.
