How does AdSense count impressions?

Per channel or per page?

I thought I knew the answer to this one but lately I've seen some things that have made me have some doubt.

Suppose I put an ad on a page and assign it Channel 1.

I put a second ad on the page and also assign it Channel 1.

I put a third ad on the same page and assign it Channel 2.

1,000 people visit the page during the day.

At the end of the day, will the impressions for Channel 1 be 1,000 or 2,000?
