Sampling ads that were served on my site

We would like to sample the ads that were displayed on our site, but we clearly cannot look all the time. Has anybody found or created code that can "capture" (perhaps randomly, perhaps caused by some user action) the ads that were served inside the adsense frame at any given time?

I would like to do this randomly, just to monitor, but also maybe upon certain user actions (or inactions) to see if the ads had any effect.

Thoughts, help, experience?

I don't know how you could do that reliably. Plus - what you see on your site isn't necessarily what I'd see on your site.

Yeah, i figured that, but i guess what i'm looking for is what YOU did see or are seeing on my site. So, i'm looking for a snapshot at a particular time and for a particular user (sometimes, that user would be me or the system that instigated the request).

1. I don't know that such a thing is available.

2. Even if it were, it would likely be of little value to a publisher

Well, i'm asking as a publisher. If anyone does know how to do this, I'd like to talk. I would consider hiring as a consultant.

I wish this were possible, because it would be useful to know what sort of ads interest my visitors the most. We might also be able to use this info as a clue to find out which ads pay higher.

AdSense used to display the destination URL in the status bar on Internet Explorer, but they stopped doing that in 2007, so I don't think there's a way to know anymore.

The odd thing is that the info is accessible through the browser without going to the site. Just right-click the link in the ad and choose "Copy Shortcut," then paste the text into Notepad. Look at the end of the text and you'll find "&adurl=" followed by the destination URL. I'm not sure why you can get the info by right-clicking but not with Javascript.
