The adsense CTR for search is fantastic!

I'm sure it's because the ads appearing above the search results are extremely targetted (it depends on what you search for) and the whole ad block is clickable.

On the other side, it's disappointing less than 1% of people use a site search.

The whole site has a 1% CTR, so 14% for site search is mind blowing!

Additionally if no search results are found, the ads still appear on the site.

or, you could just build your own search function and place ads next to it. Nothing special about theirs, just that people are in a "searching" mood, hence higher CTR.

Definitely there is something special about their site search.

You will never be able to show adsense ads with the query people searched for in the title using your own site search.

yes, the only benefit would be that the ads are targeted directly and instantaneously for that specific search phrase.

I've always seen high CTR for their search ads.

Cheers,

Historically I was seeing over 10% CTR for search ads until three days ago, then it went down to less than 3%, and it hasn't gone up again. Something is definitely wrong.
