Just saw this post in the Adsense blog:

[adsense.blogspot.com...]

Category filtering will give publishers the ability to block ads that fall into specific categories such as dating, religion, and politics. Regardless of how ads are targeted, they'll be filtered if they're within one of the selected categories.

Seems like it's a nice start to a request that I've read here many times. I know I'd like to block a couple of subjects from my sites.

I think it if were editable on a "per site" or "per channel" basis it might be better, because while one of my sites may not be OK for dating ads, another site may be a perfect fit.

Yup, nice start, but I'd have a hard time choosing which of the example categories NOT to filter.

i don't imagine they'll put too many of the normal categories on (stuff like accommodation, travel, electronics) because that would defeat the whole point of doing their new "interest based" ads.

if they let webmasters narrow the topics down to just the subject of their site, then none of the user's interests would ever show.

in fact... didn't google say that interest based ads wouldn't include certain subjects, like health, religion and politics? i'm guessing that all the subjects listed on that screenshot are those.

I think this will be a useful tool for those tight niches that really need to exclude specific subject areas.
