Google Policy on PubCenter

Are the same old policies still in effect?

I don't check in here as often as I once did, so apologies if this has been answered. I know Google has had a policy of not allowing contextually based ads on the same pages as Adsense.

That said, a lot of the ad programs that they didn't have problems with in the past all are contextual by default these days. So does Google's policy still stand as things have evolved so much over the years?

Specifically, my question has to do with MS PubCenter. I've heard that publishers in their beta program are really banking, so obviously I'm interested. I'm just looking for some clarification on what Google's policy is concerning Adsense and PubCenter on the same sites or pages.

You should check the Program Policies page and the TOS pages at Google. If I were you, I'd read it for myself straight from the source instead of relying on someone on a discussion forum like this.

Then if something isn't clear, come back here and discuss it - because there is at least one thing about it that's not very clear.

First of all, I have been working with MS PubCenter for a while, and while the options for creating ads are FAR better than Google's, I just haven't seen much in the way of decent ads. The advertisers aren't there - at least not for any of my niches.

That said - Google has made changes to its policy on contextual ads - you can run them together, but they have to be styled differently enough so that there is no ambiguity about whether or not it's a Google ad.

However, that doesn't mean you're still off the hook - you want to check the other ad network's TOS too. For example, while it's within Google's TOS to run AdSense and YPN on the same page, apparently it's against YPN policy (I don't have an account with them so I'm just repeating what I've heard)

Thanks for the input guys. I will read Google's terms over again myself.

Nutmeg: So just to confirm, by your reading of Google and MS terms, there is no prohibition of running both Pubcenter and Adsense on the same pages as long as they are distinctively different.

I always err on the side of caution because so many of the terms always seem subjective to me, that's why I appreciate the input from other publishers.

Guru, you want to check the PubCenter policy closely too, imho. You might be better off working with ADSDAQ, which supplies contextual display ads, totally removing any question about whether they mimic Google ads.

Other good options include Kontera and intelliTXT in-line text ads (I know, you might not like them but they will help pay the rent and not interfere with your other ad networks).

NETmeg.

I don't know, I don't run them both on the same page on any of my sites, so I never looked. Advise you read both TOS until you thoroughly understand them, and you many be able to ask MS. You won't get a clear answer out of Google.

jhood: Thanks and I use ADSDAQ already. think their CPM ads are quality and pay well. I have their contextual turned off though. I usually find most inline text ads to be annoying personally, so I'm not sure I'd want to subject my users to them.

NETmeg: Sorry about that. I've seen you on here for years. No harm meant, not sure why I typed nutmeg. I'll read over both TOS again. I may just single out an entire site for PubCenter testing just to be safe and see how it performs.

It is ok with MS, I have been in the beta from the start and they have no problem with both AdSense and Pubcenter on the same page.

It is also ok with Google as long as the Google ads look nothing like the Microsoft ads.

With Microsoft's advanced features that is very easy to accomplish.
