I read adsense is free somewhere, but I asked my friend and he said no. Is it free or not? How much $ if not?

It is free to put on your site.

It is free - there is no charge to web sites to participate. Of course, there is a minimum payout amount (I think it's $100) so if your traffic doesn't generate enough clicks to get there, then you won't get paid -- but they never take your money.

You will get paid at the end of the year whatever they owe though, even if it never hit $100.

Cool! So that's why it's so popular...

It's friggin' brilliant, actually. The whole concept of GOOGLES, in fact, is friggin' brilliant. Such a simple concept, and yet so darn effective. Who hasn't used or heard the phrase "google it" being used at least once a day? Whoever these guys are, they're brilliant!

I agree with everything said.

Another thought.

I have read and heard AdSense referred to as the latest fad which won't last. That may be true, but think about it.

As long as there are people who want to promote their sites with AdWords, there will be AdSense.

Plus, it is the AdWord users that set the price we receive per click through good old fashioned bidding.

For AdSense to die, all bids would have to cease which I cannot see happening. Soooooo, AdWords guys are happy since it is a product where they decide the price. WE are happy because AdSense is a great supplemental income. And Google is the most happy since they take a piece of everything.

In a way, Google is becoming a Monopoly.

when you first put adsense on your website how does it determine how much you get paid per click.. Does it start out at a low price and move up from there depending on the amount of people that click on the ads? for example, if i put adsense on my website, how can I achieve say $0.50 per click rather then $.05 a click?

@sadelb

This, I believe, is the one nitpick most affiliates have with the great and mighty G. They don't tell you how much each click is worth. It's one of those things you have to accept or not accept. They'll tell you in the report how much you made from how many clicks, but as to what got clicked, how much per click -- it's all a big mystery. G won't tell anyone. You either have to roll with it, or buck the system. And it's way too profitable to buck IMO.
