Improved CTR and eCPM from Feb. 22-23 forward

After complaining all month, February is ending well for me.

Three of the past five days have been my 3rd, 4th and 5th best of the month. Looking at my stats, CTR and eCPM bottomed out sometime on the 22nd and have continued to rise for the last four days straight.

Could this be a function of a short month? Additional funds needing to be spent in short order? I guess I will get somewhat of an answer if the trend continues through the 28th.

As an aside, my impression is that, from being an AdSense publisher since 2004, these periods of ups and downs seem to occur pretty randomly, but they always, in the long run, seem to end up better than before.

I'm a small publisher, so my experience is based on what - to some of you - may seem insignificant numbers, but I am working with a very understandable data set. Your mileage may vary, but overall, AdSense is still well ahead of the rest of the adserving pack.

yesterday and today [26th] have been absolutely s**t for me this month.
Got the traffic, got the clicks, but the amount paid out has dropped a lot.

My leaderboard EPC average was completely normal however my AdLinks EPC was slashed dramatically by nearly 50% resulting in a much below February daily average overall earnings.

My CTR over the last 3 days has been higher than normal. Has a look at the website to see if the targeting had changed. Looked much the same.

I did notice the ads looked quite good - they are currently running at the size as the rest of the site and I set the fonts to be the same. They can't be misleading as I have a huge box around them, but maybe they are more pleasant to look at and are attracting more eyeballs?

Feb was scary but is ending normally. Years before Adsense was very average (stable) but now it seems it goes up and down... scary lows!

Anyway, I'm ending "normally" this month but I have more sites and more traffic. So, earning the same as usual but with more effort... :(

Just looked at today's stats and...guess what...hours behind!

Updation please:-)

This seems to coincide with the font option being rolled out. Perhaps some publishers are experimenting and getting lower CTRs, leading to higher PPC for publishers who haven't changed fonts. Dunno, just speculating.

I haven't noticed any dramatic improvements. In terms of CTR and eCPM, the last week has been in line with February as a whole. (EPC has been up about 10 percent, though.)

Ah...now we're talking, a 50% click dump, please don't forget the remainder:-)

I'm still seeing much lower EPCs on my AdLinks, must go have a look and see what's being served.

I'm happy for everyone thats doing better.
But my ECPM is still about 50% of January's.
But I have also noticed a lot of Google's systems going "wonky".
Not just Adsense.

Strong upturn the last 7 days of the month. If I was a conspiracy theorist I'd have something to say about this...

fearlessrick, check your stats for the same period last year and see what that tells you?

Since its now the 1st did the trend continue?

I remember when I ran a large adwords account I always tried to spend the full months budget to get the most amount of sales we possibly could. If we didn't spend all the budget for the month it wouldn't get carried onto the next month! This was about two years ago or so.

going "wonky".

Wonky? Could you elaborate further?

For me, the bottom has just fallen out the last two days of the month. All month long have been my highest daily averages then dropping to one third of what I've been getting all month. Inexplicable drop for me. Big drops in both CTR and CPC. No other changes.

Whoa! Saturday 28th February saw my highest Saturday earnings since 20th September 2008 with a normal EPC and my third highest CTR of the year!

So far Sunday's looking good too...what's happened?

wyweb:
Yes, Adsense and Adwords both running into trouble on the 14-15.
Since then my targeting on Adsense went way off, on sites it's normally very good on.
eCPM dropping like a rock.
Google's Blogger running into problem after problem.
Missing posts, pictures vanishing and reappearing, polls vanishing then coming back.
It seems every Google based system I look at has had random problems since the 14th.
So since the 14th I have seen problems with Adwords, Adsense and Blogger.
Systems I don't usually see any major problems with.
That's what I meant by "wonky".
