Can ad colour change the value

Can the colours of your advert affect your share of the revenue ?

This is a strange one. I am doing some optimising of one of my sites. I have a 468 x 60 banner in top left corner which is black text on light blue (matches site theme) background.

I have now created channels for it and created a new advert which is white text on a red background.

Using a little ASP code I am displaying the blue background advert on even seconds (server time) and the red advert on odd seconds.

After half a day, the difference is remarkable.

The blue advert is getting $1.41 per click but the red advert is getting $0.72 per click !

Same advert, same position, different colour ......

Anyone else experienced this ?

Makes me want to try further combinations.

Half a day is nowhere near enough time to come to such a conclusion.

I think half a day is pretty short to draw any conclusions. But given the number of color blind people especially in the red/green area, I wouldn't suggest using a red background. I for one wouldn't be able to see what's up there at all.

I know what you mean, but I am so surprised that there is a 50% increase and the only difference is the colours !

In half a day, it could be anything. Advertiser positions move around a lot. Sometimes they raise or lower their bids, or new ones jump in, or old ones jump out. You can't attribute it to the colors.

Google likes primary colors, only use primary colors. Notice the colors in their logo. That is my "expert" opinion.
