hiya. Newbie to the site here. i have a small interent business which i am trying to get off the ground. i have registered for google several times and still my site isnt up. so i was thinking of signing up for google adsense. what are peoples opinions on this service. is it any good? i am in the uk and at the moment am a non tax payer due to my husband being disabled and me being his carer. at the moment my business isnt making enough for me to class myself as working although i do hope to get there soon. i did read the other thread regarding the member who is in a similar position enquiring about uk tax on any money earned and am also a little confused as to what and when to declare any money/tax. how much money have people earned via googlesense? and has it helped your own business pick up? any advice would be welcome. Thanks love mara x

Hi,

Google Adsense is definately worth a try. The amount you'll earn is dependent on your content and site traffic. From reading your post I assume you presently have little traffic. Never the less, it won't hurt to get the Adsense ad code onto your site and then begin building your traffic.

As far as I know, if you are not a U.S resident you do not need to provide any tax information to Google. It is the publishers responsibility to declare their earnings to their respective governments. I have no knowledge regarding tax exemptions for the disabled.

marajade,

It is not clear if your web site is going to be both your business page and your publisher page for AdSense. If its content does not impress Google, you won't get accepted as a publisher.

If you can build a separate content site, such as a discussion forum and a directory relating to carers in general, or the specific disability, it could get a bit of publicity, then it would get traffic. That would be the time to apply for AdSense.

My website is a support group site, and thanks to good content, the ads are well targeted and I get a cheque monthly. My reading of the various threads is that the better the content, the better Adsense works.

When you say you've registered for google several times, do you mean you've submitted your site for inclusion in the search engine? If this is the case and you can't find your site on a search, then look at your meta tags etc.

To pay tax in the UK, your taxable income needs to be over £4,700. Check the inland revenue site for the exact amount. Basically, the legal position is that you have to declare ALL earnings to the inland revenue, but you don't start paying tax until you get over the threshold above.

In our case, my wife has a part time job and does not earn over the £4,700. I am a taxpayer. Therefore, the website earnings are in her name. You might find that a similar arrangement may work for you if adsense is going to be a worthwhile money spinner in your case.

It's against the TOS of this site to disclose this information, so you are unlikely to get a direct answer to this!

hi there, welcome to WebmasterWorld

firstly you need traffic to your website, if you have no traffic you won't earn anything with adsense. look here at WebmasterWorld about directory submissions and getting links this is how you will get into google.

as for tax, anything you earn is taxable and legally should be declared to the inland revenue, for low earners this is easy and you just fill in a self assesment form that you get from HMG IR (ask at your local tax office)

I placed Ad Sense ads on my high traffic pages (information only so as not to loose customers for my business) on a high traffic business site with over 4000 visitors per month and made sure the ads were relevant to the content but it isn't generating much revenue.

Ad Sense only sends out a check after you reach $100 in clicks and at the rate my ads are being clicked on it will take me about 20 months to reach that amount. I could put more ads on more pages, but after trying this for 2 weeks and not seeing much action I'm thinking there has to be a better investment of my time --like finding more backlinks.
