Yes, link units do affect CPM because you get no credit when someone clicks on a link unit ad and only when they click on an actual ad on the next page you get a click. Thus at least your CTR will be halved or worse.

I just compared the CTR of a link unit in the left nav area
with a 300x250 unit also in the left nav area

The AdLink has the higher CTR.

Mistake, this should be a response to the discussion about Adlinks influencing eCPM

Maybe a admin can splice this to the other thread

What I just noticed, at Google AdSense statistics, when I make a statistic for AdLinks only, the show in the first column how many times the AdLink was clicked and in the second column how many ads have been clicked.

It seems a click on an AdLink leads to multiple clicks in the shown page.

I dismissed these years ago. At least back then, Adlinks were getting CTRs literally about 1/100th that of ANY other Ad unit. Took, 'em ALL off.

Check the placement, experiment with it!

This month are nearly 50% of all clicks only on AdLinks

Mine are the same and have been since AdLinks introduction.

It seems to me that AdLinks increases page CTR as long as the AdLinks Units attract more clicks than they draw away from the regular ads.

But how to determine if a regular ad would have been clicked instead if there were no AdLinks on the page is a mystery to me.

I do well with AdLinks. One thing I found is that you need to experiment with the placement and the right number. For example, I do well with two AdLink units per page - much better than with one or three. I also find that the units with 5 links each work better for me - again, just experiment.

I don't use adlinks and adblocks on the same page. After some experimentation, I have found pages and locations where adlinks work and adblocks don't.

A third to a half of my earnings are from adlinks but they are on fewer than 10% of my pages. And they take up such a small amount of space, too!

And FWIW, CTR and EPC are better than adblocks....
