In specific response to your question, the people who worry about the fact that some site owner is making some money of their site if they click an ad, are a little jealous? maybe or maybe they think that a quality website is created only to satisfy the 'creative urge' and to do a free charitable service? or may be it is that GET RICH crowd, who never do seem to succeed in getting rich..
In Google search, I first check what I need is in the organic search results, only when I can't find what I needed do I jump to the paid ones really ... and I am sure I am not alone.
By going to all that trouble, they deprive the publisher, and help the advertiser save money. What makes you think that the average punter hates publishers and loves advertisers?
I'm sure more people search, see a result, topped by a 'sponsored result' from the same site, and choose to click on that, just to make the advertiser pay.
People do all kinds of weird things, but they all tend to balance out to what 'normal' people do.
Another odd Generalization..
I am an Indian and run an adWords campaign to promote my e comm store specifically only in India. I am able to generate thousands of clicks a month from an Indian audience. Infact, big G wants me to keep upping my budget... They say.. we will give you more and more clicks from Indians.. so all Indians may not necessarily not go,, clickity click... but enough do , to make it a worthwhile biz. model.
Plus many addresses are long, and people are lazy.
Yea like click and ad twenty times in sucession. At least it looks like it because I get another page impression shown. I see that every now and then in my logs. Or somebody goes from one page to another and clicks all three ads I have shown without any intention of staying there. Anybody else see that? Or is it some stange bot?
If I find a good site, and the ads give me what I want, i'll be lazy and click the ad. I won't key in the address, that's just going to take longer to get what I want. It's a service, after all. If the publisher has put some effort into the site, they deserve to get paid, imho.
It is not about the user's intelligence. It is about providing ads that are useful and relevant to the user.
The only users that hesitate to click ads are webmasters, for a whole slew of other reasons. ;-)
I see that every now and then in my logs. Or somebody goes from one page to another and clicks all three ads I have shown without any intention of staying there.
That's just one of your rivals trying to get you chucked off the program.
Or your nephew, who wants a bigger birthday present this year, and doesn't realise he'll get you chucked off the program.
they see the url in the site ads and they type it in the address bar and reach the target site
If I am on a competitor's site and see an interesting ad, I'll probably just type in the ad URL- why would I want to give my competitor money? :)
Most people just aren't interested in understanding anything but there is a minority who will set out to do things in the most roundabout and complex way possible.
What site visitors do is, they see the url in the site ads and they type it in the address bar and reach the target site.
I don't believe the majority of users would be able to do this successfully. I am sure it happens, but by a small percentage.
It is an interesting question though. Let me turn it around.
During a Google search, the intended site is in one of the top positions and in the sponsored links. Which do you click on?
So in the end, you just have bigger CPC and smaller CTR.
Another thing is that there are few niches where majority of people could do that. Most internet surfers cannot distinguish between a parked site and a "normal" one.
Storm
this is actually what I`m doing if I am interested on the adsense ad.
I will also copy paste the url in the address bar because I'm an adsense publisher and I don't want any trouble with Google regarding click policies and such. But I count myself as being part of a tiny segment of the total web traffic on sites.
Hahaha
I really don't see why it's funny, unless it was a nervous laugh.
